Der Innovationspreis der FRUIT LOGISTICA ist jedes Jahr eine spannende Sache – hier werden Unternehmen nominiert die innovative Produkte in der internationalen Obst- und Gemüsebranche anbieten.
In den letzten Jahren waren beispielsweise Hersteller von neuartigen Packsystemen, von neuen Ansätzen zum Anpflanzen von Salaten, zum lebensmittelechten Bedrucken von Obst / Gemüse oder mit den Pook Chips auch ein kleines Berliner Startup dabei – Pook hatte den Preis 2018 sogar gewonnen.
Auch in diesem Jahr waren wieder einige Innovationen zu bestaunen, hier die Nominierten:
Tomato YOOM™ [The Winner]
Tomaten aus den Niederlanden gibt schon seit mehr hundert Jahren auf deutschen Tellern – mit der neuen Tomato YOOM™ hat es das niederländische Unternehmen Syngenta Seeds B.V. allerdings geschafft, nicht nur einen optischen, sondern auch einen kulinarischen Leckerbissen zu kreieren.
Diese Tomate spricht mit ihrem hohen Anteil an Aminosäuren insbesondere den Geschmackssinn für Umami an und schmeckt daher sehr intensiv, pikant, fleischig und herzhaft – ein echtes Geschmacksfeuerwerk.
Dabei enthält dieses innovative Produkt allerhand Vitamine und Mineralstoffe, aber wie die kräftige Farbe verrät auch eine Menge Anthocyane die neben Carotinoiden auch für ihre antioxidative Wirkung bekannt sind.
Ein weiterer Vorteil dieser neuen Tomate ist, dass Sie zu jeder Jahreszeit und auch unter Kunstlicht gezogen werden kann – somit sind die Anbauvoraussetzungen natürlich ideal.
All dies und der Umstand, dass es hier um etwas geht, was ein jeder der abstimmenden Teilnehmer schmecken konnte, ist der Grund dafür warum es heißt:

SoFruMiniPak® EcoView
Die polnische Firma SoFruPak Witold Gaj produziert eine schicke Verpackungsreihe, die aus nachwachsenden Rohstoffen hergestellt wird. Dabei sind die Verpackungen sehr stabil, ansprechend bedruckt und zu hundert Prozent biologisch abbaubar – also ganz im Sinne der Nachhaltigkeit.
Die Sichtfenster bestehen aus Zellulose und ermöglichen es so Plastik-frei einen Blick auf das Innere der Verpackungen zu werfen.
Außerdem sind die Verpackungen gut durchdacht was die Stapelbarkeit und Durchlüftung angeht. Sie lassen sich einfach verschließen / wieder verschließen und eignen sich hervorragend für Obst, Gemüse & Pilze.
TENDERSTEM ROYALE®
Das Unternehmen SAKATA VEGETABLES EUROPE SAS stellt im Rahmen des FRUIT LOGISTICA Innovationspreises 2020 eine neue Kreuzung vor. In diesem Fall wurden auf natürliche Weise chinesischer Grünkohl und Brokkoli gekreuzt.
Das Ergebnis lässt sich sehen – nicht nur das es optisch recht ansprechend ist und fast wie wilder Brokkoli anmutet – man kann den neuen Brokkoli in Gänze sogar ungekocht essen.
Er schmeckt ganz leicht süßlich und ist dabei sehr protein- und ballaststoffreich – Fett, Natrium und Zucker sind dagegen kaum vertreten – sozusagen ein echter Superfood Kandidat.
Proband V1000
Die ebenfalls nominierte Firma project Service & Produktion GmbH aus Deutschland zeigte ihren Proband V1000 – eine portable Maschine, die in der Lage ist Papier-Banderolen an Obst, Gemüse oder anderem zu platzieren.
Die Innovation hierbei ist zum einen, dass hier die Verschweißung von unterschiedlichen Banderolen mit einem schnellen und unkomplizierten Wechsel des Rahmens zu bewerkstelligen geht – zum anderen das dabei die Verarbeitung von Papier-Bändern mit einem Kunststoffanteil von weniger als 5% möglich ist.
Mosswool®
Das Unternehmen Novarbo Oy aus Finnland hat sich Gedanken gemacht was es braucht um die teils im Gemüseanbau verwendete Steinwolle zu ersetzen. Hierbei war man natürlich darauf aus dies durch natürliche und nachwachsende Rohstoffe zu bewerkstelligen um dabei auch nachhaltig vorzugehen.
Das Ergebnis der Überlegungen waren Mooswollplatten – diese eigenen sich als rein organischer Rohstoff hervorragend für den Anbau von Gemüse, Kräutern und Obst uns sind dabei natürlich auch leicht kompostierbar.
Novarbo Oy hat das Portfolio an Mooswollplatten für jedwede Anwendung konzipiert und stellt die unterschiedlichen Produkte übersichtlich auf der Firmen-Webseite dar – aktuell in Finnisch, Schwedisch und Englisch.
Neues mehltauresistentes (hohes) Süßes Basilikum
Die CN Seeds Ltd, UK hat es geschafft das Saatgut der beliebten Süßbasilikumart „Ocimum“ so zu modifizieren, dass es nicht mehr Anfällig für den Falschmehltau ist.
Für die Produzenten dieses weit verbreiteten Krautes ein echter Durchbruch, denn zuvor sind weltweit viele Ernten dieser Pflanzen-Krankheit zum Opfer gefallen. Nun ist das Saatgut genetisch resistent gegen den Falschmehltau und dies auf umweltfreundliche Weise.
Sinclair EcoLabel®
Mit dem EcoLabel hat das britische Unternehmen Sinclair eine innovative, kompostierbare Etikettier Lösung auf den Markt gebracht. Die Etiketten lassen sich zudem rückstandfrei von Obst, Gemüse oder anderem entfernen.
Die Druckfarben, das Obermaterial sowie der Klebstoff sind lebensmittelecht und das Produkt wurde bereits vom österreichischen TÜV zertifiziert.
Die Etiketten lösen sich nach zwölf Wochen von selber auf und sind nach insgesamt einhundert-achtzig Tagen biologisch abgebaut.
Violì
Mit der Violì hat das Unternehmen Apofruit Italia Soc. Coop. Agricola eine neue Sorte von Artischocken auf den Markt gebracht. Diese zeichnen sich neben ihrer bestechend schönen Farbe durch ihre Zartheit aus. Die Eigenschaften der Artischocke wussten schon die Römer zu schätzen, weshalb sie auch die Titulierung „Königin des Gartens“ erhielt.
Die neue Artischocken Sorte wird aus einem Hybridsaatgut gezogen, wird nach exakten Produktionsspezifikationen angebaut und ist neun Monate lang innerhalb eines jeden Jahres verfügbar. So wird eine gleichbleibende Qualität sichergestellt und für Konstanz bei Größe und Aussehen Sorge getragen.

Kompostierbare, flexible, bedruckbare Verpackung
Unter den Nominierten ist mit der Firma SILBO SP. Z.O.O. in diesem Jahr ein weiteres polnisches Unternehmen dabei. Auch hier liegt die Innovation in einer neuen Verpackung – diese Obst- & Gemüseverpackungen sind nicht nur lösungsmittelfreie, sondern auch kompostierbar.
Die umweltfreundlichen Verpackungen werden auf Basis von wasserlöslichen und lebensmittelechten Farben und Klebstoffen produziert. Sie bestehen aus recyceltem Papier und/oder Zellulosefolien.
Damit sicher gestellt ist das die Verpackungsindustrie mit dieser Innovation umgehen kann, hat das Unternehmen dafür Sorge getragen das, das Produkt sowohl auf vertikalen als auch auf horizontalen Verpackungsmaschinen Verwendung finden kann.The FRUIT LOGISTICA Innovation Award is an exciting event every year – companies are nominated here that offer innovative products in the international fruit and vegetable sector.
In recent years, for example, manufacturers of new types of packaging systems, new approaches to planting salads, food-safe printing on fruit and vegetables or a small Berlin start-up, Pook Chips – Pook even won the award 2018.
This year again, there were some innovations to marvel at, here are the nominees:
Tomato YOOM™ [The Winner]
Tomatoes from the Netherlands have been on German plates for more than a hundred years – but with the new Tomato YOOM™ the Dutch company Syngenta Seeds B.V. has managed to create not only a visual but also a culinary treat.
This tomato, with its high content of amino acids, appeals in particular to the umami sense of taste and therefore tastes very intense, piquant, meaty and hearty – a real firework of taste.
This innovative product contains all sorts of vitamins and minerals, but just like its strong colour, it also reveals a lot of anthocyanins, which are known for their antioxidant effect in addition to carotenoids.
Another advantage of this new tomato is that it can be grown at any time of the year and also under artificial light – so the cultivation conditions are of course ideal.
All this and the fact that this is something that each of the voting participants could taste is the reason why it is called:

SoFruMiniPak® EcoView
The Polish company SoFruPak Witold Gaj produces a chic range of packaging made from renewable raw materials. The packaging is very stable, attractively printed and one hundred percent biodegradable – in other words, completely in line with sustainability.
The viewing windows are made of cellulose and thus allow a view of the inside of the packaging without the use of plastic.
In addition, the packaging is well thought out in terms of stackability and ventilation. They are easy to close / re-seal and are ideal for fruit, vegetables & mushrooms.
TENDERSTEM ROYALE®
The company SAKATA VEGETABLES EUROPE SAS presents a new plant crossing as part of the FRUIT LOGISTICA Innovation Prize 2020. In this case, Chinese kale and broccoli were crossed in a natural way.
The result is impressive – not only is it visually appealing and almost looks like wild broccoli, but the new broccoli can even be eaten uncooked.
It tastes slightly sweetish and is very rich in protein and fibre – fat, sodium and sugar, on the other hand, are hardly represented – a real superfood candidate.
Proband V1000
The also nominated company project Service & Produktion GmbH from Germany showed their Proband V1000 – a portable machine, which is able to place paper banderol’s on fruit, vegetables or other things.
The innovation here is, on the one hand, that the welding of different bands can be done with a quick and uncomplicated change of the frame – on the other hand, that it is possible to process paper bands with a plastic content of less than 5%.
Mosswool®
The company Novarbo Oy from Finland has thought about what it needs to replace the stone wool that is partly used in vegetable growing. Of course, they wanted to replace it with natural and renewable raw materials in order to be sustainable.
The result of these considerations was moss wool panels – as a purely organic raw material, these are ideal for growing vegetables, herbs and fruit and are of course also easily compostable.
Novarbo Oy has designed its portfolio of moss wool boards for all kinds of applications and presents the various products clearly on the company’s website – currently in Finnish, Swedish and English.
New mildew-resistant (high) sweet basil
CN Seeds Ltd, UK has succeeded in modifying the seeds of the popular sweet basil species „Ocimum“ so that they are no longer susceptible to downy mildew.
This is a real breakthrough for the producers of this widespread herb, as many harvests worldwide have previously fallen victim to this plant disease. Now the seeds are genetically resistant to downy mildew in an environmentally friendly way.
Sinclair EcoLabel®
With EcoLabel, the British company Sinclair has launched an innovative, compostable labelling solution. The labels can also be removed from fruit, vegetables or other items without leaving any residue.
The printing inks, the outer material and the adhesive are food-safe and the product has already been certified by the Austrian TÜV.
The labels dissolve after twelve weeks and are biodegradable after a total of one hundred and eighty days.
Violì
With the Violì, the company Apofruit Italia Soc. Coop. Agricola has launched a new variety of artichokes on the market. In addition to their captivatingly beautiful colour, these artichokes are characterised by their tenderness. The characteristics of the artichoke were already appreciated by the Romans, which is why it was given the title „Queen of the Garden“.
The new artichoke variety is grown from a hybrid seed and according to exact production specifications – it is available for nine months within each year. This ensures consistent quality and ensures consistency in size and appearance.

Compostable, flexible, printable packaging
Among the nominees is the company SILBO SP. Z.O.O., another Polish company takes part to the Award this year. Here too, the innovation lies in a new packaging – these fruit & vegetable packaging’s are not only solvent-free but also compostable.
The environmentally friendly packaging is produced on the basis of water-soluble and food-safe paints and adhesives. They consist of recycled paper and/or cellulose films.
To guarantee that the packaging industry can handle this innovation, the company has ensured that the product can be used on both vertical and horizontal packaging machines.
