At the friendly invitation of Messe Berlin, this year I had for the first time the opportunity to dedicate myself to FRUIT LOGISTICA. A fair to my taste – in contrast to many other food fairs not to overcrowd and also all sorts of optical and culinary highlights.
This year there were well over 70,000 visitors, who felt well distributed over the three days – the majority of the visitors came from abroad and so you could train your English, French, Spanish but also many other languages there.
There were thousands of exhibitors, among them almost all Southern European countries, all Latin American as well as Asian suppliers with fantastic designed stalls – I assume that every continent was there. It was certainly one of the more interesting events for Messe Berlin, but in any case, also a huge challenge – which, in my opinion, passed brilliantly.
To set the mood, Agrarmarkt Informations-Gesellschaft mbH (AMI) had, among other things, provided press visitors with two charts (source: AMI analysis based on the GfK Household Panel) showing the German ratio of purchasing quantities of fresh fruit and vegetables. This shows that apples and bananas are still the undisputed leaders on the German “fruit front”.
In vegetables, the first six (tomatoes, carrots, onions, cucumbers, peppers & iceberg lettuce) read like the list of ingredients for a good salad – and this ranking is likely to emerge in the end. Interesting would be which place sheep cheese & tuna would have taken here, whereby these two candidates may not necessarily be added to the vegetables…
With such an extensive range of products on offer to trade for visitors it was essential to set some priorities as this year. In addition to many interesting conferences and workshops, there was often not enough time to devote to each of the unique halls of the exhibition grounds.
Unfortunately, I was not able to see, experience and try everything that was on offer at FRUIT LOGISTICA within the three days. Therefore, I focused on the different varieties of blood oranges – here I finally released a CheckIt (I added the varieties to the blood oranges CheckIt) – some fruit novelties as well as the loving design of many stands.
The many pictures that follow this article should give you the feeling that in the presence of so many fresh products you would undoubtedly have felt.
