Le Su

Le Su at Hamburg’s Lange Reihe is felt to be a little too expensive for the food they offer, which is certainly due to the exposed location. Le Su sees itself as a mediterranean restaurant – this may be partly true, but I felt it more like an authentic pure Lebanese restaurant from the point of view of the furnishings and the food.

The waiters as well as the cook were very friendly and the ordered food was quickly on the table. What was striking for me was the background noise – it was a little loud, especially the handling with plates & co in the kitchen that was open to the guest room could have been more reserved.

On the cook’s recommendation I had ordered the mixed plate to get a good impression of what Le Su has to offer. I found the selection very interesting and detailed:

  • The Sesame Falafel were very tasty – but a little too dry for me.
  • The mincemeat balls were also delicious – but unfortunately clearly too cold
  • The lamb chop from the pan surprised me, despite the missing charcoal grill it was super tasty and great seasoned.
  • The humus was top quality and refined with pomegranate – a good idea.
  • The Burghul (Bulgur) was OK
  • The bread served unfortunately not really warm
  • The typical parsley salad was missing the lemon as well as salt and oil – here you have to season and taste it before serving
  • Thyme potatoes were unfortunately served instead of the promissed coriander potatoes – a pity, but with an announcement (Obviously one has adjusted in the meantime to the visitors who can’t stand coriander at all)
  • The second salad served – unlike the parsley salad – was remarkably well seasoned
  • I had ordered an Australian wine – a little expensive with 16,5 Euro for 0,5 l – but after it was well temperature, very tasty.
My conclusion

The prices at Le Su are a bit too high for me – especially when it comes to the wines. The choice of dishes consists mainly out of the same or similar dishes in different combinations – here I would wish me a greater culinary variety.

The taste was a bit “up & down”, some of it really tasted great – others rather average to unloving. Here they should show more consistence in terms of taste, freshness and above all also the temperature of the served food.

I liked the ambience at Le Su, only the unpleasant volume was inappropriate and avoidable.

Le Su has a simple web presence with a contact form – unfortunately not “https” yet, which, if it stays that way, can certainly lead to costs soon due to warnings – this should absolutely be corrected as soon as possible – anyone who uses the contact form should be sure that no third party can get the information.
