At the BIOFACH 2020 in Nürnberg I had the pleasure to meet Taina Laitinen – one can justifiably claim that she is a luminary in the field of “sweets”.
With the fruity products of Vavesaaren Tila, the Finnish Vavesaari Estate Oy from Hartola mainly produces sweet delicatessen products based on berries – only wild berries are “put into the pot” here.
The product portfolio ranges from non-alcoholic sparkling drinks with strawberry or rhubarb flavour, organic juices & juices of apple, rhubarb, strawberry, blueberry or sea buckthorn to traditional Scandinavian mulled wine specialities.
In addition, Vavesaari Estate Oy offers three very tasty organic muesli variations under the Vavesaaren Tila brand. For example, the “Tyrnimysli” with sea buckthorn, carrot, linseed and a few more. Beside there is also the more ordinary classic “Karu Kauragranola” with wholegrain oat flakes, Finnish home garden apple juice and honey. The mueslis can be kept around nine months and are definitely worth trying.
Then there is of course a noteworthy number of very tasty jams. Starting with the classic varieties such as organic lingonberry, currant or blueberry jam and an extraordinary type which is named “Spicy Organic Green Currant”. In addition, there is also a speciality I like the best – cloudberry jam. As I have already pointed out several times on foodadvisor, cloudberries are a particularly aromatic fruit. For example, Arctic Sparkle is also made on the basis of this delicious berry.
But now to the “Rising Star” of Vavesaaren Tila‘s products – the jam sweets. These are small cubes of Vavesaaren Tila jams, which are available in all flavours except cloudberry. Pectin is used for gelling, and natural citric acid is used to regulate acidity.
Crystalline sugar acts as a separating agent – so the delicious cubes don’t stick together so much even in the bowl at the table – if they stay in it for that long. Interesting is that these sweets including less sugar than most chocolates you can buy.
The sweets are also suitable for adding to cakes and tarts, as well as to quark and yoghurt desserts.
Some customers also like to put the small cubes into cocktails – so you always get a very fruity sweetness.
A completely new product – just developed, so to speak – are small bars of dark chocolate, with hazelnut pieces, oatmeal and diced jam – very tasty.
All products from Vavesaari Estate Oy do not contain artificial additives such as colours, sweeteners, preservatives and the like – and have done so for 300 years. Yes – that’s right, because Vavesaari Estate was founded in the 18th century on an island in Lake Puulavesi in the Finnish Lake District.
This centuries-long tradition is the guarantee of the exceptional quality of Vavesaaren Tila‘s products – it is simply in the genes of the founders’ descendants.
