InkBird: Meat thermometer

I have to say up front that I’m not really a fan of meat thermometers – in particular, I consider excesses such as using the temperature measurement when roasting a single slice of rump steak to be real satire.

Nevertheless, a meat thermometer like the InkBird INT-11P-B can of course help to make the cooking process – be it grill, oven or pan – more relaxed and achieve a predictable result, even if you have little experience.

The InkBird INT-11P-B already made a good impression during unboxing, the packaging was pleasing and the device is obviously of decent quality.

After unpacking, I cleaned the “needle”, disinfected it in a food-safe manner and immediately charged it.

I then prepared a test object – a slice of Scottish cowboy steak weighing approx. 700g – seasoned it and set it aside until it was at room temperature.

In the meantime, I created a user account on the InkBird website via my PC and then installed the InkBird app on my smartphone (Android) using the relevant data.

It was easy to integrate the InkBird INT-11P-B into the app – simply select the Plus in the app, make the “casket” of the thermometer findable by pressing the “button” and the whole thing was ready for use.

I then inserted the needle into the steak up to the mark and placed the slice on the preheated gas grill. I seared the cowboy steak on both sides at a high temperature, giving it both a roasted flavor and an attractive pattern.

I then switched off two of the four flames on my grill, as the InkBird app repeatedly warned me that the temperature was too high for the InkBird INT-11P-B when the grill hood was closed.

So I tried the core temperature of 60°C (medium) suggested by the app and got a very pleasing result – this time without the Australian pressure test.

My conclusion

I think the InkBird INT-11P-B is a very well-made product, which is particularly suitable for larger grilling projects – such as brisket, pulled beef/pork or even karee (loin).

The app is appealing, easy to use and has a pretty decent recipe catalog “in its belly”. With regard to the reception range of the thermometer and charging tray – even with the grill closed – I didn’t notice any dropouts – although I was a maximum of 10 meters away. The fact that the charging cradle is magnetic immediately proved its worth for me – only time will tell to what extent the IP67 certification is correct.

I would definitely recommend calibrating the INT-11P-B via the app – I will use my sous-vide stick for this, as it has a maximum deviation of 0.25°C up to 100°C – I think that would be a good and cost-neutral reference in my case.

I was a little disappointed by the INT-11P-B‘s multiple temperature alarms (from 250°C), as my grill sometimes needs an operating temperature of 400°C – 430°C to conjure up excellent steaks on the plate – not counting the infrared sizzler.

All in all, I can recommend the INT-11P-B to anyone who wants to own a meat thermometer – as always, look out for any discount offers on Amazon when buying.

So far from me, I hope my short review was helpful – I hope you all continue to enjoy cooking, baking and barbecuing!
