FRUIT LOGISTICA 2020

Since Wednesday 5 February 2020, FRUIT-LOGISTICA has opened its doors again and, as every year, there is plenty of delicious fruit and innovations from all over the world to be admired.

With this event Messe-Berlin has once again established a real magnet for trade visitors in the capital, which is likely to be particularly popular this year. The reason for this is certainly the current health situation in Asia, which is why this year’s FRUIT LOGISTICA ASIA has already been relocated from Hong Kong to Singapore. The concern of many visitors to attend major events in Asia at the moment is definitely also a topic in Berlin.

The many exhibitors have once again tried to outdo each other when it comes to decorating their booths with a wide variety of fruit and vegetables. It was noticeable that this time there was much more to be tasted – but as they say “love goes through the stomach”. So, if you want to convince with your products or services, you have to do your culinary best.

This is of course well received by the visitors and the relaxed atmosphere reflects this. The exhibitors take plenty of time to answer questions and – as at this year’s Green Week – topics such as climate protection, saving resources and acting ethically take up a far greater proportion of the space than in previous years.

Many manufacturers of packaging score points, for example, with 100% biodegradability & material savings as well as with ecological fully compostable labelling solutions on a real food basis. Particularly in the case of the FRUIT-LOGISTICA Innovation Award, there are a number of nominated companies whose products focus on sustainability.

I will also be writing an article on the Innovation Award candidates 2020, but I will wait until this year’s winners have been found. Personally, I have not yet been able to decide which of the innovations presented is the best.

This year I have decided to focus not only on the culinary aspects of the fair, but also on one or the other topic that is not, or not directly related to consumption. Among them is, for example, a company that has dedicated itself to the topic “How can we manage to keep fruit & vegetables fresh and attractive for longer in sales”.

In addition, I also visited an established producer of sorting machines, and even there the big issues of our time have already been recognized. More on this in the individual contributions to FRUIT-LOGISTICA 2020, which I will successively “feed” into the blog.

I can only recommend that you visit this exciting trade fair in Berlin yourself – have fun!
