Restaurants

Surf & Turf Phuket Town

On the Thai island Phuket there are countless restaurants – many of them do not survive a complete season after their mostly pompous opening. Those restaurants that have been in Phuket for more than two years can justifiably say they have made it. One of these culinary temples with a “stock guarantee” is the Surf & Turf in Phuket Town. Continue reading Surf & Turf Phuket Town

Lieblingsplatz

The restaurant Lieblingsplatz could – if it was around the corner – also become my favourite place. We visited this restaurant after I noticed it on television a few years ago. The supposed boss (you never know with TV) made such a patent, open and honest impression on me that this, together with the culinary promises, was reason enough to stop by there the next time I was in the area. At the end of February, we made the way of approx. 30 minutes from Hamburg to the south. Continue reading Lieblingsplatz

Pot Luck Club Capetown

We discovered the Pot Luck Club in Cape Town when we were looking for the restaurant “The Test Kitchen” – one of the best 50 restaurants worldwide. At the time of our visit both restaurants were run by the same owner. Unfortunately, The Test Kitchen was still closed – in retrospect a lucky coincidence, because the food and especially the bright atmosphere of the Pot Luck Club fascinated us deeply. Continue reading Pot Luck Club Capetown

Central Market

Adelaide is a beautiful and tranquil place – there are an incredible number of green spaces, parks and of course the great Botanical Garden. Another highlight, and one that takes place indoors, is the Adelaide Central Market. This is definitely a MUST SEE when you are in the city. The atmosphere reflects the attitude, lifestyle and zest for life of the inhabitants of this rather small Australian city. Continue reading Central Market

Tasos Andriotis – Chef of the Rose Garden Restaurant & Angsana Corfu

Tasos Andriotis is one of the most famous chefs in Greece. Just a few days ago, he and his team received the Award of Modern Greek Cuisine 2022 in Thessaloniki. The team was honoured for their achievements regarding the Rose Garden Restaurant in Moraitika on Corfu. Continue reading Tasos Andriotis – Chef of the Rose Garden Restaurant & Angsana Corfu

El Gaucho

Some time ago I visited with a good Bangkok friend the El Gaucho Bangkok – the “branch” not far from the Grand Mercure ASOKE…right next to Terminal 21. The atmosphere of the restaurant was very inviting and authentic, you felt right at home and almost like in a Argentina steakhouse. The furnishings are very attractive and invite you to linger even beyond the good steak. Continue reading El Gaucho

Nicolas Basset – former Executive Chef of Sofitel Bangkok Sukhumvit & Chef of Belga Rooftop Bar & Brasserie

Nicolas Basset – Chef Nico – is one of the most innovative chefs I have ever met. Before he started the BELGA project at Sofitel Sukhumvit, he was already sous chef at the MGallery Sofitel VIE Hotel.

The cuisine of the VIE Hotel enjoys an excellent reputation for a reason – for many years now, chefs of rank, name and stars have been coming here to set new highlights and pass on their knowledge.

Since the beginning of 2020, Nico has not only been head chef at BELGA but has also risen to the management level of the Sofitel Bangkok Sukhumvit with the position of executive chef – congratulations.

Das Dorsch – time for the culinary

On the recommendation of an experienced restaurateur from Fürstenwalde, we visited today quite spontaneously Das Dorsch in Bad Saarow. In order not to experience an unpleasant surprise on this sunny Sunday, we have previously reserved by phone of course and had luck to get hold of a table outside. Continue reading Das Dorsch – time for the culinary

The Mussel Pot

We arrived in the morning with the Interislander Ferry from Wellington on the South Island of New Zealand. Already the entrance to the South Island revealed the breathtaking nature that this part of New Zealand has to offer. An optical foretaste with green hills, almost like in the Shire. Continue reading The Mussel Pot

Chefs Warehouse & Canteen

Chefs Warehouse & Canteen in Cape Town was one of the culinary highlights of our trip. As so often it was due to chance that we “found” this place. We were on the road in Cape Town and just came from the car rental company. Actually the plan was to visit one of the highly acclaimed steakhouses of the city – the NV-80 Grill & Bar – but it was just after five o’clock in the afternoon and we obviously hadn’t had enough for breakfast – at least a slight feeling of hunger told us to have a look at the restaurants that were already open in the immediate vicinity of the car rental. Continue reading Chefs Warehouse & Canteen

Roberto Rota – former Head Chef of the VERO trattoria & wine bar Phuket

Chef Roberto Rota – in short Chef Roberto was the innovative driving force and the good soul of the VERO kitchen, the Trattoria & Wine Bar at the Pullman Arcadia Phuket. Here you can not only enjoy excellent food – from time to time very special events take place here. The portfolio of VERO’s cuisine ranges from down-to-earth mamma cuisine to Italian haute cuisine and the most delicious representatives of Mediterranean flavours in general.

Block House Hamburg main trainstation

Since there are real Prime-Steaks (RibEye on the bone) in the Blockhouse, our visit has basically become a ritual. In the meantime, I’ve probably already eaten about 50 kg of it there on my own…and if you add the colleagues, I am sure we reached more than 200 kg at all, at a price of about 49.- Euro for the grilled kilo in the restaurant completely fair. Continue reading Block House Hamburg main trainstation

Bunmee Nueangchaiyos – former Head Chef Arcadia Elements Phuket

PullmanChef Bunmee Nueangchaiyos – everyone calls him Chef Sorn – was the head chef of the Arcadia Elements Restaurant and sous-chef of many culinary events and functions at the wonderful five-star hotel pullman Arcadia Phuket.

It was a great pleasure for me to get to know him better in the short time we spent on Phuket. His friendly, open and always interested nature is more than a trademark. Continue reading Bunmee Nueangchaiyos – former Head Chef Arcadia Elements Phuket
