Types and Purpose of Processed Data

We process inventory, contact, content, usage, and meta/communication data of visitors and users of our online offering. The purposes include providing the online offering, responding to contact requests, security measures, as well as audience measurement and marketing.

Key Terms and Legal Bases

Terms such as “personal data”, “processing”, “pseudonymisation”, “profiling”, “controller”, and “processor” correspond to the statutory definitions. The primary legal bases are Art. 6 GDPR as well as, additionally, the German Digital Services Data Protection Act (TDDDG) (inter alia, for device access and cookies).

Security, Subcontracting, and Third Countries

We take appropriate technical and organisational measures pursuant to Art. 32 GDPR. Cooperation with third parties or processors takes place in compliance with Art. 28 GDPR. Data transfers to third countries outside the EU/EEA are secured on the basis of appropriate guarantees, such as the EU-U.S. Data Data Privacy Framework (DPF) for the USA.

Rights of the Data Subjects

You have the right to access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, and data portability pursuant to Art. 15, 16, 17, 18, and 20 GDPR, as well as the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority (Art. 77 GDPR).

Right of Revocation

You have the right to withdraw given consents pursuant to Art. 7 Para. 3 GDPR with effect for the future.

Right to Object

You can object to the future processing of your data in accordance with Art. 21 GDPR at any time, particularly against direct marketing.

Cookies and Right to Object in Direct Marketing

Cookies are small files stored on end devices (distinguished into temporary session cookies and permanent/persistent cookies, as well as first-party and third-party cookies). The storage and retrieval of information on users’ end devices is based on explicit consent pursuant to Section 25 Para. 1 TDDDG or, in the case of strictly necessary cookies, based on the statutory exemptions of Section 25 Para. 2 TDDDG. A general objection against tracking cookies can be declared via AboutAds or Your Online Choices.

Erasure of Data

Data will be deleted or restricted in processing pursuant to Art. 17 and 18 GDPR, provided that no statutory retention obligations (such as 10 years under German commercial/tax law AO/HGB/Austrian BAO or 6 years for commercial letters) prevent this.

Comments and Contributions

IP addresses of users leaving comments are stored for 7 days based on our legitimate interests pursuant to Art. 6 Para. 1 lit. f. GDPR. Data for spam detection purposes is also processed, and comment data remains stored permanently until the user objects.

Hosting

The web hosting services we utilize serve the purpose of providing infrastructure, platform, and security services. In doing so, we or our hosting provider process inventory, communication, and usage data on the basis of legitimate interests (Art. 6 Para. 1 lit. f GDPR in conjunction with Art. 28 GDPR).

Collection of Access Data and Log Files

We or our hosting provider collect data on every access to the server on which this service is located (so-called server log files) based on our legitimate interests within the meaning of Art. 6 Para. 1 lit. f. GDPR. Access data includes the name of the retrieved website, file, date and time of retrieval, amount of data transferred, notification of successful retrieval, browser type and version, the user’s operating system, referrer URL, IP address, and the requesting provider.

Log file information is stored for a maximum of 7 days for security reasons (e.g., to investigate abuse or fraud) and is deleted thereafter. Data whose further retention is required for evidentiary purposes is exempted from erasure until final clarification of the respective incident.

Google Analytics

We utilize Google Analytics, a web analytics service provided by Google LLC (“Google”), on the basis of your explicit consent pursuant to Art. 6 Para. 1 lit. a GDPR in conjunction with Section 25 Para. 1 TDDDG. Google uses cookies. The information generated by the cookie about the use of the online offering by users is usually transmitted to a Google server in the USA and stored there.

Google is certified under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework (DPF), thereby providing a guarantee to comply with European data protection law. Data transfers are additionally secured by standard contractual clauses.

Google will use this information on our behalf to evaluate the use of our online offering by users, to compile reports on activities within this online offering, and to provide further services to us. Pseudonymous user profiles can be created from the processed data. We only use Google Analytics with activated IP anonymization. Users can prevent the collection of data by Google as well as the processing of this data by Google by downloading and installing the browser plugin available at the following link: https://google.com. Personal data of users is deleted or anonymized after 14 months.

Verwertungsgesellschaft WORT (VG WORT)

Cookies and Notifications on Traffic Figures

We utilize “session cookies” from VG Wort, Munich, to measure accesses to texts in order to determine the probability of copying. The use of these cookies is based on statutory exemptions pursuant to Section 25 Para. 2 No. 2 TDDDG, as they are strictly necessary to ensure the statutory remuneration claims of authors and publishers pursuant to Section 53 of the German Copyright Act (UrhG). These measurements are carried out by Kantar Deutschland GmbH using the Scalable Central Measurement Method (SZM). We do not collect directly identifiable personal data via cookies. Using our offering is also possible without cookies by disabling cookie storage in your browser settings.

Privacy Policy for the Use of the Scalable Central Measurement Method

Our website and our mobile web offering use the “Scalable Central Measurement Method” (SZM) of Kantar Deutschland GmbH to determine statistical metrics. Anonymized measurement values are collected. IP addresses are processed only in anonymized form. At no time are individual users identified. Your identity remains protected at all times.

Online Presences in Social Media

We maintain online presences within social networks and platforms in order to communicate with active customers, prospects, and users, and to inform them about our services. When accessing the respective networks and platforms, the terms and conditions and data processing guidelines of their respective operators apply. Unless otherwise stated, we process user data if they communicate with us within social networks (e.g., post contributions or send messages).

Google Fonts (Local Integration)

We integrate the fonts (“Google Fonts”) provided by Google LLC, 1600 Amphitheatre Parkway, Mountain View, CA 94043, USA. In order to guarantee the privacy protection of our users, the fonts are installed locally on our own server. When accessing our website, no data is transmitted to Google servers and no external connection is established.
